Modern Art Gallery Brno

The new building of the Modern Art Gallery in Brno is situated at South side of the hill called Kraví hora, near the city center. The building site is relatively spacious and its location follows on park. Also the whole urban solution concept of the site follows the park idea. The gallery park should serve as an outdoor exhibition space as well as a communication point between two sides of the hill – Náměstí míru and Veveří street. So the main initial points of the design are freedom of movement, passage of nature and to be surrounded by the art. The Modern Art Gallery project consists of the main building and other small buildings used as studios. In the main building of the gallery there is an exhibition place, educational center, library and other services for the visitors. The small studios situated in the garden should be rent to the starting artists. They would have there their hinterland for work and exhibitions, so the public can have personal contact with them. The shape of the building is based on a slightly deformed cuboid. The middle part is taken away, so there is an opening in it. This opening forms a vista through the building and a covered public space as well. The building works with two main views of the city. The first one is through the middle opening in the building and the mass of the building frames it. The second one is from the roof terrace of the building on the Brno dominate – Špilberk castle.

Revitalization of Technical Museum Brno

Project of revitalization of Technical museum Brno deals with extension of its complex. Museum has not enough capacity to shelter and expose all its large vehicles. The extension of transport museum is designed as an urban complex based on axes. The large architectural scale presents monumental objects as small as collection of toys. Typology is minimalistic and variable so it could react on various demands of exhibitions designers and public. Analytical part examines researches about museum exhibition's evolution and contemporary trends.

Management of Exhibition Sites for a Festival

The aim of this work is to create a new information system for the management of exhibition spaces at the festival called Animefest. The web application is implemented in Python using the Django application framework. The system uses a vector map in SVG format for the definition and representation of spaces. The created solution also provides its own system for recording the history of changes in the database. The system will allow festival organizers to catalog spaces and preserve the history of cooperation with various partners.

Tomioka Mill

The supervising teacher of the Thesis chose two bulidings to be the subject of solution, which were used as warehouses of cocoons. These are the biggest buildings of the premises as for the volume, which stand out for their impressing construction and their area (1493,1 & 1486,6 m2). The distance between them is aprox. 125 m. The systém of construction is the same in both the buildings, it is a wooden timber reinforced brick masonry frame in modular size of 3,6 x 6,15 m. The constructive height of street floor of building A is 4,4 m, building B 3,85 m. The clearence of bulinding A is 3,85 m and for building B 3,27m. The clearance of second floor in both objects is 4,84m. The existing inner staircase has one arm and is of 54 cm in width. There is a cargo lift on its … covered by … for the connecting the floor areas. … … of both the building forms together with wooden pillars elements also … . The windows of 160 cm width are set rytmicaly in three consecutive rows, they ensure max lighting of the interior of the buildings. The roofing of the buildings is made from wooden frame structure and covered by tiles. The roof construction is not covered from bottom and therefor they make an impression of one of the most striking elements in the interior. The clean dispositions, the lenght of the halls of 104 m to the adequate width, the clean construction both the brick and the wooden ones, together with impressive lighting, the all form an enormous value resulting in a unique character as a whole.

Architectural gallery

Bachelor's thesis project proposal addresses Gallery of Architecture in Brno – Cerna pole. The main theme is the expansion of public street space and the formation of new of pedestrian path by creating a new connection between Drobného and Čenopolní street. The purpose of the project is the cultural and architectural revival around Čenopolní street. The building itself is located inside the existing residential villa area of the thirties. Tthe shape is inspired by pre WWII modernism . The proposed gallery space of the street seems from street level like couple of separate buildings, with interconecting lower platform with a terrace and beautiful a view of Brno. The building contains a gallery with space for conferences and workshops, and a small cafe.

The project deals with the solution of a corner plot, which is clamped the Milada Horáková street and the Koliste street. The draft consists of two materials, one of which is a gallery and the second includes additional features as a café, library, lecture hall and the like. The gallery obtains a separate position and does not expire in the file multiple functions.

Breda, the old department store

ABSTRACT The diploma thesis project deals, as its name suggests, with a former department store, so called „The old Breda“, which was built between 1927-28 in the then capital of Austrian Silesia, the Opava City. The department store is an architectural masterpiece, you will hardly find another department store of this kind in the whole of former Czechoslovakia. In 1972, it was declared a cultural monument. Today, we can understand it as an accurate testimony to what the city of Opava was a hundred years ago, how it has gradually changed and what it is like today. The building and its fate is also a frequently mentioned topic for the Opavans themselves, as the building itself reminds them of pleasant feelings and memories of the experience of its space. In this context, the central space under the dome, illuminated by glass-concrete blocks, is often inflected by people. Together with stained glass windows, lighted display cases and the creaking wooden steps of a large staircase, it offers visitors a truly unique atmosphere and moment. The reason why the building itself leaves a strong trace of nostalgia in each person is quite obvious and indisputable. It is a building of immense architectural quality, which the Silesian native from Krnov, known as the Viennese architect Leopold Bauer, offers to the local people through his work. Although there is no doubt that Bauer was a genius in his field, which I was able to see again and again during my research, we must not forget the fact that the whole project was possible to happen only thanks to the wealth and initiative of David Weinstein, businessman and owner of Breda & Weinstein company. However, Weinstein did not enjoy the building and its fame for very long and if you look at the time, the place and context and the fact that Weinstein was of Jewish descent, you will find out the reason why. The cruel fate thus befell his family, as did almost all Jews at the time (not only) in Opava. In 1945, during the Ostrava-Opava operation, Opava was almost completely reduced to ashes, and after the war, there were this time Germans who were to be completely expelled from Czechoslovakia. At that time, the building was called German because Breda and Weinstein spoke German. This was followed by privatization and the associated further changes in the property and also layout of the building. In 1994, in addition to the misfortune, the building was acquired „for sale“ by the local bussinesman Kolek, which meant a way to Breda to complete destruction. There was even a fire, which blackened the dome‘s otherwise light concrete. Since 2012, when the house was closed and taken out of operation, it has only fallen into disrepair. It was also in insolvency proceedings. However, in the eyes and hearts of the proud Opavans, the building still leaves strong recognition and feelings that did not allow the building to be abandoned, people put pressure on the politicians from the city for a long time, until in December 2021 the ciity approved the purchase of the building. However, this step opened up more and more questions and problems. Nobody knows what to do now. There is no intention. It is only clear that the reconstruction will be very costly. With my work based on analyzes from the last semester and studying the data of available research, I try to show the city how it could handle the building.

Gallery aviation technology and traditions of aviation at the airport Medlánky in Brno

The main subject of the diploma project was to create architecture study for new building of a Gallery for sport aircrafts and their traditions and other equipment that cooperate with this topic. The Gallery is designed in Brno´s Medlanky municipality and it is incorporated on current local sport airport. This project was preceded by studio project on the same area, which included reconstruction and development of this airport area. In this diploma project I was trying to continue with this development and establish a design which would react to my earlier design. The site has a sloped character and it separated from a dense city area. Starting point for the design was to gently touch the landscape and also trying to find certain references directly in the closest surrounding. From the views to surrounding was created the idea to preserve the horizontal lines and with a landscape and constructions demands was created the main idea to continue with the landscape over the spatial structure. The need to cover large-scale exhibit items like aircrafts and other items from this topic led to a starting point of my design. The structure is formed as a spatial truss structure and dominates the exhibition space. Building is connected by program and structure to services and other areas like conference hall, coffee, study room, work room and administration. As a one building it teems mainly from arrival at the airport area when the roofing is an organic, monolithic surface disappearing in surrounding. But gallery itself emerges from the ground and opens towards the aircraft take off and departure area where it is also direction of a main view to the surrounding. The building is also unique for its entering, such as the main entrance through narrow staircase gap in the roof. This entrance should evoke to people an aircraft landing, where while descent plane dive in to the clouds and appear underneath above a whole new landscape. Gallery of art, architecture and design is located at the corner between the streets “Koliště” and “Milady Horákové”. Urban design creates a conceptual link between “třída Kapitána Jaroše” and park “Koliště”. The whole consists of two buildings - the gallery building on the corner of land, and a building with facilities of gallery, commercial and other functions. The land is surrounded by busy traffic, so both masses turn away from these areas and they are open towards the passage between. Communications of gallery are located on the façade, creating a noise barrier, but it also has an exhibition function. The main exhibition spaces are designed as universal with artificial lighting and daylight roof. In the second building are administrative facilities of gallery, cafe shop and design shop in the pit, media library in second floor and studios on the top floor, which use permanent northern light. Both buildings are designed of concrete. The structural glass facade is in front of supporting structure of gallery.
